DANIEL FRIEND

Sound for film & television — location recording, boom operation, foley, ADR, dialogue editing and mixing.

About

Dan operating a boom microphone on set

I'm Dan, a sound recordist and editor based in Leeds, working across location and post-production. On most of the films I've worked on I've been the production sound recordist and boom operator, and I do a lot of the post as well — foley, ADR, dialogue editing and mixing in Pro Tools.

I've just graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a 2:1 in Filmmaking (2026), and I spent a year studying Electronic Media and Film at Towson University in Maryland, where I picked up live sound, studio recording and radio production. I also edit video in Premiere Pro.

Selected work

We Need to See Other People

Sound Recordist · Sound Designer · Foley Artist

Designed all audio for an animated character, recorded ADR, captured and edited original foley, worked with composers on an original score, and handled the final layering and mix. Full professional kit with wireless boom.

Pink Elephant

Boom Operator

Boom operation plus mic setup and lavalier fitting, with production design support. Managed equipment booking at short notice when the original sound recordist was unwell during pre-production.

Good Mamas Let Their Babies be Cowboys

Sound Recordist

Independent production with Leeds Beckett alumni. Handled all equipment bookings, university liaison and permissions documentation alongside production sound.

Experimental Film

Sound Recordist · Boom Operator · Editor · Mixer

A fiction piece presented as found-footage uploaded to YouTube — an imitation of online personalities. Shot on professional kit then degraded in post to feel low quality.

Mimos and His Mummer

Sound Recordist · Boom Operator · Foley Artist

Led production sound and post-production foley. With little dialogue, the focus was on small, exaggerated foley to build the story and represent the mime characters' movements.

Human Spirits — Documentary

Sound Recordist · Boom Operator

My first university film: a documentary following paranormal investigators on a ghost hunt at The Leeds Library, and my first experience with professional-grade equipment.

Band Recording

Sound Recordist · Editor · Mixer

An audio-class assignment during my study-abroad year at Towson University: recording a live band in a studio with some live mixing, with the edit completed in Pro Tools.
